Is it odd a dog behaviourist should visit your home to address your dogs behaviour when you consider the problem with your dogs behaviour is outside?
If you try and address only one part of your dog then it would be strange but my work as a dog behaviourist looks at the whole picture and, my dear dog owner, that includes you! I do more work as a human behaviourist than I do as a dog behaviourist because it is your behaviour, and that of every other dog owner I work with that needs the most attention.
You, as a human being will be doing things you have no idea your dog is picking up on. Some things you will be aware of as they are quite obvious but there are many you won't be aware of but I guarantee your dog is aware of them and builds them into his behaviour. So you see I am as much a human behaviourist as I am a dog behaviourist.
How do you reward good behaviour in your dog?
Your answer will probably include the word treat but that is not what I actually asked you. but it is the most common form of response because it demonstrates how easily we distance ourselves from the dog. I'll ask the question again, how do you reward your dog?
The answer I will give you is this, you reward with excitement.
Most of your problems with your dog come from that simple fact, you reward your dog with excitement. How is your dog going to think it behaves for you?
Dog behaviourist or human behaviourist?
Now I have you thinking a little differently, please read on to see what is involved....
Here I will give you a word of warning. This is not click and treat because I don't give treats to dog owners for good behaviour, just lots of praise! It is your own behaviour and attention you will be learning to control and that is hard work. Please be assured I won't be offended if we don't work together as my teaching is not for everyone. Lasting change requires commitment and I would like to give you an example of the level of commitment required. Lasting change will happen during a course of up to three home visits and at least ten of my dog behaviour walks. If you can't commit to this level then please seek help elsewhere. If you can't get to my dog behaviour walks, monthly home visits are the next best thing because you will keep working towards your goal to have a happy, well balanced and well behaved dog you can be proud of wherever you go together! Dog Behaviourist or Human Behaviourist? One cannot work properly without the other!

Dog trainers are usually teaching obedience so they use treats, as a Human behaviourist, I am teaching you and your dog to be calm and well behaved. When is a dog ever calm for a treat? If you reward with treats you are still rewarding excitement.
